Job Description
Join a rapidly growing and very profitable water treatment company as they expand their commercial offerings within the Oil & Gas and Energy sectors. As the
Principal Applications Engineer
you will lead the field applications engineering, project management, startup, commissioning, and process troubleshooting for a series of new wastewater treatment technologies that improve the effectiveness of oil/water separation in produced water projects that support upstream Oil and Gas drilling operations.
For over 100 years, our client has maintained a dominant position as the world’s leading groundwater services provider and they have now developed a new cost-effective line of proprietary treatment solutions for brackish wastewater streams that incorporate filtration, crystallization, and advanced evaporative technologies. This is a high visibility position that can reside in either Austin or Houston, TX and will report directly to the Division General Manager.
Essential Job Functions include:
Lead technical review of capital equipment configurations for each project in conjunction with design engineers to ensure that the functional design criteria for each customer are met.
Provide hands-on field operations support and troubleshooting for new project installations, startups, and system commissioning.
Assist with the preparation of mass / energy balances, piping & instrumentation diagrams, electrical one-line diagrams, controls & logic diagrams, equipment specifications and layout drawings including interface details with existing operating mechanical equipment.
Collaborate with members of the Engineering, Operations, and Business Development team to develop new and/ or improved equipment solutions, complete required deliverables, and ensure optimal field performance of new treatment systems.
Brainstorm with R&D team to support new process or product development initiatives.
Assist with pilot studies/trial evaluations and recommend engineering design changes that improve product or system performance.
Create and/or modify project documentation such as process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), procedures, layouts, bills of materials, and engineering change orders.
Assist with customer presentations, sales proposals, bid responses, and other business development activities.
Travel up to 40% to support project activities in Oilfields and Shale fracturing sites.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
B.S. or M.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering, or related technical field.
Licensed Professional Engineers (PE) or Certified Manufacturing Engineers (CMfgE) a plus.
8-10+ years in process equipment design, engineering, or manufacturing, preferably with products within the energy sector (i.e. Oil & Gas, Hydrocarbon Processing, Refining, Petrochemical, Power Generation) and/or the industrial water and wastewater equipment manufacturing / installation businesses.
Strong project experience with separation, filtration, and recycle/reuse of produced water/crude oil mixtures.
Knowledge and experience in organics removal /silica removal from produced water.
Knowledge of downhole drilling practices, injection wells, shale fracking, thermodynamics, heat transfer processes, heat exchangers, natural gas compression operations, power plant operations, commercial construction and/ or industrial water treatment is preferred.
Knowledge of controls/ ladder logic diagrams as well as control system development.
Prior experience with liquid/solid separation technologies such as filtration, ultrafiltration (UF), multi-media filtration (MMF), rotary disc filtration, and reverse osmosis (RO) highly preferred
Prior experience with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) or Zero Discharge Desalination (ZDD) systems a plus.
Prior experience with multi-effect or multi-stage evaporators, rotary evaporators, or wastewater evaporation a plus.
Experience with industrial waste (handling or disposal), environmental regulations, and transportation a plus.
Excellent written, computer, and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop and present technical reports, drawings, and system operations to peers and customers internally and externally, and communicate effectively with other engineering and manufacturing locations within the organization.
Knowledge and use of AutoCAD systems and related engineering software tools.
Ability and willingness to travel nationally to support project activity.
